THANK YOU…

Just wanted to take a moment to say “Thank You” to all of our families. We know that Professional Development Days are often inconvenient and force our families to juggle schedules. Please know how treasured these days are for our staff as we get a chance to work together to collaborate, dream, synthesize, and strategically plan to create amazing learning opportunities for your children. THANK YOU, again, for the flexibility and support!

WELCOME MS. DEB!

We would like to take a moment to make you aware of an exciting leadership addition for the ’22-’23 school year.

Mr. Bob has made the decision to transition back into an opportunity in higher education.  We certainly want to thank him for his work with our organization and we wish him the best.

We were very excited to hear that Deb Feenstra was available to take on a new role after this school year and moved quickly to let her know IES would be just the perfect place!  We were already familiar with Deb’s name because she is very highly regarded in both the public and private schools in our area.  It was evident immediately that she understands our mission as a school and would have the passion and gifts to lead us through this next season.

We’re very excited to have Deb share her skills and joy of learning with us, as we have really enjoyed getting to know her, and know you all will as well! While we will be hosting an opportunity for you to meet Ms. Deb as we get closer to the end of the school year, we’d love to introduce her to you via the little blurb she has written, below.

My name is Deb Feenstra and I can’t tell you what an honor it is to be chosen to serve as the next Executive Director of IES! I‘ve had the opportunity to serve as an educator in the Holland/Zeeland area for 35 years and I am excited to continue that journey as a member of the IES team. My educational philosophy is that each student is unique and our job as educators is to provide an innovative learning environment, in partnership with parents, that strives to meet students where they are and support them to reach their full potential academically, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Personally, I have been married to my amazing husband for 42 years and we have 2 daughters, a son-in-law, and 3 wonderful grandchildren who all live in the Zeeland area. My youngest daughter, the joy of our lives, has cognitive needs and is a dependent adult who has taught us to see every moment in life as a gift and a possibility.  As a family, we had the opportunity to serve as full-time mission staff in Chiapas, Mexico from 1999 to 2005 and we still spend part of every year there.  Our son-in-law is from Chiapas so we live a life that is bilingual and bicultural.  IES’s vision of “Innovative education that cultivates global leaders and thinkers and makes a positive impact” aligns perfectly with my life vision and I can’t wait to get started!

PENNY WAR – THIS WEEK!

7th and 8th graders traveling to Costa Rica for their capstone trip are excited to be bringing back Penny Wars for 2022! This fundraiser is a fun way to raise funds for the organizations they will be serving in Costa Rica. This year our travelers are excited to be working with two organizations, Animal Refugio, an animal refuge that works to rehabilitate animals so they can return to their natural habitat, AND Funda Vida, a before and after school program for inner-city kids in Costa Rica.

All proceeds from this fundraiser will help us provide needed supplies for both organizations. Funda Vida has a long list of items that are hard (or very expensive to get in CR) from arts and crafts supplies, education materials in English and Spanish, games and more. Animal Refugio has a shorter but more costly list of needed items like lumber, paint, and things needed to help maintain their facility.

We will be purchasing these items in Costa Rica. Our goal is to raise $1,200 this week for these two organizations. Thank you for sending coins (and cash) with your students this week. All donations are greatly appreciated!
