REMINDER: Next Week is Teacher Professional Development

March 17th – 1/2 Day – Students Dismissed at Noon

March 18th and March 19th – No School

*Also, a sack lunch WILL be available for kids to grab on their way out of school on Wednesday, March 17th. Please let your kiddos know if they should order a lunch for that day & one will be waiting for them.

Thank you to our Family Engagement Team and Author/Illustrator Amy Young for the fabulous book talk and sharing what it’s like to be an author!

Ms. Anita’s Friends learned about International Women’s Day by talking about the reason why we celebrate it. They covered the history of the suffragettes and the story of different female figures that have inspired others with their hard work and accomplishments. They finished their day doing a garland with different women that have inspired them and a small writing.

Yay for outside lunch days, again!

NEW INFORMATION

WE LOVE WARM WEATHER – (PLEASE KEEP IN MIND SCHOOL DRESS CODE =)

From our Innocademy Family Resource Guide…

Dress Code

Please help your student make sure that they are choosing appropriate clothing for school. Dresses and shirts should have a strap of at least two fingers (one inch) wide (no strapless, spaghetti straps, halters or side low-cut sleeveless shirts) and should completely cover the mid-section. Shorts, dresses and other pants must be at fingertip length or longer with student arms resting at their sides. Pants must be worn at waist level. Students not meeting the dress code will need to change their clothing … either new from home or school-provided. School dress code is in effect for field experiences and may have additional guidelines appropriate for the experience. Hats are allowed. If a student wears hooded clothing, we ask that hoods remain down when indoors to encourage social and academic engagement. * Due to Covid-19 a mask, covering both mouth and nose, needs to be worn in the building.

UPDATE ON OUTDOOR LEARNING ENVIRONMENT (THANKS, MR. CHAD!)

For the last year, Innocademy has been working on improving our school grounds in line with our nature rich/outdoor learning goals.  As we released last fall, we have been collaborating with Native Edge landscape architects to create a master plan.  The master plan is ambitious and touches on nearly every aspect of our Outdoor Learning Environment.  We are very excited to announce the progress of our first stage, our Nature Playground in the Northeast corner of our property.  Already last fall, Native Edge oversaw the installation of a native wetland garden complete with hundreds of native plants, boulders, a walking path, and retention ponds.  Thanks to a generous grant through Zeeland Board of Public Works in combination with some school funds set aside for outdoor classrooms, we will be moving this spring to add an overhanging deck, sand “beach” and natural playground with stumps and logs, a rain garden and bioswale. Because this area can hold a lot of moisture, the first step is to include a drainage system that leads water out through the ponds and into the drainage basin.  In future phases, we look forward to adding an amphitheater and connecting path. While this stage will largely require heavy machinery to carve the land, we will soon be looking for volunteers to help shape the nature play elements.  If you are interested in knowing more, or volunteering labor this spring, contact chad.zuber@innocademy.com

ATTENTION MIDDLE SCHOOLERS WHO WISH TO PLAY SPORTS

Registration for GRACEAC spring sports with our partner school, Corpus Christi is now open! GRACEAC will be offering girls soccer and boys & girls track & field for 5th-8th graders this spring. Spring sports are permitted to begin practice on Monday, March 15 (subject to change), and the GRACEAC spring sports calendar typically ends before Memorial Day weekend. Parents can register for GRACEAC spring sports at the following link: https://go.teamsnap.com/forms/256711

Documents for Participation: Please print and complete the following documents.  Return them to the coaches at Corpus Christi who will keep them on file for the school year.

G.R.A.C.E.A.C.

Corpus Christi belongs to Grand Rapids Area Catholic Elementary Athletic Council (GRACEAC).  The school athletic director attends all GRACEAC meetings.  Information regarding GRACEAC and the sports schedules can be found on their website – www.graceac.com. Students in grades 5-8 are encouraged to sign up! Corpus Christi’s “no-cut” policy gives all athletes an opportunity to improve their skills and contribute to their team.

Physicals/Consent Forms

The GRACEAC requires each student-athlete wishing to participate in a sport to have a sports physical or wavier on file at school prior to the first practice with any team and dated no earlier than April 15 of the prior school year.  No student-athlete will be allowed to practice until this form is on file – no exceptions.

Eligibility

All students are expected to put forth their academic best in all subject areas just as they are expected to put forth their athletic best in all athletic areas.  Throughout all athletic sports seasons, student-athletes are expected to be able to answer yes to the following three questions.  If a student, parent/guardian, teacher, or administration fails to respond “yes” to either question – ineligibility may result.

  1. Have you turned in all of your homework assignments on time and completed to the best of your ability?
  2. Are you giving 100 % effort in your classes, in regard to your studies, homework, and tests?
  3. Are you showing respect to teachers, classmates, fellow team members, etc?

The student-athlete will maintain good academic standing in the opinion of his/her teachers as well as positive school behavior.  The player’s academic performance and behavior will be reviewed on a weekly basis.  The Athletic Director will notify the parent(s) in writing if the player received a warning or ineligible rating from any one teacher.  If a student-athlete receives two or more warnings in one week or a warning from the same teacher for two consecutive weeks, the player will be ineligible to participate in that review period. If a player is ineligible twice, the student-athlete will be removed from the team.

Uniforms & Fees
Every athletic team is provided a Corpus Christi uniform.  The uniform varies depending upon the sport.  At the conclusion of the sports season, it is your responsibility to return a clean uniform.  Failure to do this will result in a replacement fee.

We strive to offer a quality athletic experience for your son/daughter.  The participation fee is $60.00 per student, per sport for the coming year.
