REMINDER: Parent Meeting This Week!
Please join us this week Thursday, April 25th from 6:30-7:30pm for an Innocademy Parent Meeting. Back by popular demand is Ross Naylor-Tatterson! Ross is on Ventura’s Global People Development Team and will be sharing information about how to help your child grow by getting an accurate picture of them. Childcare will be provided for the meeting
MSTEP Testing Schedule 3rd – 8th Grades
As a reminder, the MSTEP test is a required assessment by the State of Michigan. Each of our students in grades 3 – 8 test each spring. Our 5th grade Spanish Immersion students tested last week and our 5th grade Classic students are testing this week. As in past years, all assessments are completed on the computer. Please take a peek, below, for when your student(s) may be scheduled for testing. If you have a conflict with any day, please connect with your child’s teacher, asap, so that he/she can work out another time for your student to test. Thanks, in advance, for your help in making sure each one of our students completes his/her required testing.
IMPORTANT – POSSIBLE CALENDAR CHANGE
As you know this was a brutal winter in terms of school cancellation and delays. The Michigan Legislation is currently in the process of reviewing all requests for forgiveness and hopes to have an answer for us very soon. In the meantime, please PLAN ON THE POSSIBILITY OF HAVING A FULL DAY OF SCHOOL ON FRIDAY, MAY 24TH to make up for our 4 hours of the 2 weather delays this year.

After School Enrichment Link For April
Below you will find the link to the Signup Genius for session #7 of After School Enrichment. Now that the weather is starting to get (and hopefully stay) nicer, we will be spending more time outdoors!
Also, on Tuesdays and Fridays, there will be a new leader watching the kiddos. Mr. Jake is taking my place at ASE on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Jake is currently a senior at Hope College studying Secondary Education with a focus in History. Jake is excited to get started and build relationships with all of the kiddos. I know that he will do a fantastic job!
Please note that on the signup, I’ve marked that May 8th and 9th are half days for the students, so ASE will not be offered on those days.
MSTEP Testing Reminders
With testing coming up, we wanted to remind you what a critical part you play in helping students give their best performance on this important test. We have been busy and will continue preparing and reinforcing the skills necessary for students to demonstrate their learning. Even though this assessment is a snapshot—one single perspective – it is important that our students have every advantage to do their very best. We don’t want to cause test anxiety, rather we want our students to be as prepared as possible. There are many ways in which you can help your child put his/her best foot forward. The following guidelines can help set our students up for success:
The night before the test:
1. Make sure your child goes to bed on time so he or she is well-rested.
2. Keep your routine as normal as possible. Upsetting natural routines may make children feel insecure.
3. Be positive and confident in the fact that you know your child will do his/her best.
4. Plan ahead to avoid conflicts on the morning of the test.
The morning of the test:
1. Get up a few minutes early to avoid rushing and make sure your child arrives at school on time.
2. Have your child eat a nutritious breakfast. There is a strong correlation between eating breakfast and memory and cognitive functioning.
3. Have your child dress comfortably.
4. Be positive and communicate that this is your child’s chance to show what he/she knows. The most important thing you can do right before the test is to build confidence about doing his/her very best.
After the test:
1. Talk to your child about his/her feelings about the test.
2. Discuss what was easy and what was hard; discuss what your child learned from the test.
3. Explain that performance on a test does not define him or her as a person. It is just one opportunity to demonstrate learning.
