Barton Tutor Training Opportunity!

We are SO excited to be able to offer another Barton Intervention Tutor Training for anyone interested in helping out students achieve their learning goals!

What’s Barton Intervention? We are working on screening students at Innocademy and iCademy Global for strengths and challenges in the area of Phonemic Awareness… the fundamentals of reading. Simply put, Barton Intervention is a complete program created to help strengthen these foundations:

Thursday, January 26th from 5:30-8:00pm here at Homestead Campus.

Can’t make it, personally, but know someone (college student, favorite babysitter, grandparent, family friend) who would love to spend a couple of hours each week working one on one with one of our students? Send them over! We have LOTS of students on the list just waiting for tutors to be available.

Is YOUR student already receiving tutoring…and you just know that working with them one on one wouldn’t go over so well, but you’d love to help another student? We have parents in that situation and would love to help orchestrate a “swap”; you tutor my kid and I will tutor yours =).

Training is FREE!

Thank you, in advance, for supporting this important program for our students! Questions or RSVP for training, please contact brenda.busscher@innocademy.com

Innocademy School Calendar 2017-2018

Many of you are already making plans for next year! Love the proactivity! We are currently working on the calendar for 2017-2018 and hope to release it, soon. Thank you!

Sign Up For Innocademy Texting!

Before our (what we thought was going to be awesome!) Infinite Campus notification system, we used a service called “Rained Out”. It sent you a notification if school was closed/delayed. I’ve refreshed the account so it’s ready to use again until our IC system is functioning correctly. If you signed up to use it before, you may just want to sign up, again, using the easy directions, below, just to make sure.

Here is how to sign up:

On your smartphone, prepare to send a text message

1) In the “To” section, type 84483

2) In the “message” section, type Innocademy (with capital “i”)

3) Hit “send”

You will receive confirmation that you are now part of the Innocademy text messaging system. If you do not receive a confirmation back, check with your carrier to see if they support “short code” messaging. You can email me with any issues and we can trouble shoot =).

Pizza/Sub Sale Fundraiser

Finally, information has been shared with students eligible to travel this year regarding a pizza/sub sale fundraiser if they are interested in adding to their field trip accounts. If you have younger students – or your student is not traveling this year, but you wish to participate, anyway, PLEASE DO! You can simply use the information and attached order forms. Please contact Tyler.huizenga@icademyglobal, jody.voss@innocademy.com or heather.kreuze@innocademy.com for any questions you may have.

Sub Order Form

All fundraiser orders and payment are due to your student’s classroom teacher or Mr. Derek (for iCad middle/high school students) on Friday, February 3, along with a single check made out to Innocademy.  Pick-up will be Tuesday, February 21 from 3:30-5:00.

Total Trek Quest for Homestead Campus – 3rd – 5th Grade Boys – IT’S HERE! See Below for Registration Details

Look for registration information on the spring season of TTQ to come home the first week in January. The spring season will start the last week of February and will end with the Tulip Time 5K on May 6.

Total Trek Quest is a 9 week experiential learning program for boys in 3rd through 5th grades. It combines the physical activity of training for a 5K run with a curriculum that focuses on learning to make goals, building strong social bonds and making healthy choices. The curriculum activities focus primarily on building relationships, setting goals, and making healthy choices. Teams meet after school twice a week for the 9 week season. Teams consist of 5-15 boys with at least 2 adult coaches.

We are also looking for coaches! Coaches can be men or women; we are looking for a positive attitude and a passion for helping kids reach their full potential. You do not need to be an experienced runner! Ideally, we want at least 2 coaches per 15 boys on a team. REMINDER: WINTER GEAR AND SLIPPERS!!

Thanks to all of our families for sending winter gear with students every day. Students will always go outside for recess if the temperature and/or windchill are above zero degrees. Looking forward to some winter fun! Also a reminder that slippers are encouraged at school. Many students (and teachers! =) keep a pair in their cubby so they can change from their wet boots into something cozy and warm for learning time.

Yay Winter and Sledding!

Kids are loving the new fallen snow AND it’s finally sticking enough for them to use our sledding hill! Kids are welcome to bring sleds to school (LABELED, PLEASE =).

Speaking of Labels…

Just a note from our lost and found volunteer parent, Carolyn Fitzgerald that labeling winter clothing – or ANY clothing can help us return it to the students rather than having it end up in lost and found. Carolyn was able to find personalized labels on Etsy, Amazon or Groupon.

Also, REMINDER TO CHECK LOST AND FOUND BEFORE DECEMBER 20TH as all items left in lost and found will be donated over Christmas Break.

Girls On The Run – MORE SPOTS AVAILABLE!!!

We had such a great turnout for Girls on the Run registrations that needed to make 2 teams. Each team can have 15 girls maximum, which gives us space for just 8 more girls in 3rd-5th grade. Registration has re-opened just for the month of December, so if you missed your chance in November, don’t wait to grab a spot now.

With this great excitement, we are now in need of a couple more coaches. You do NOT have to be a runner. You DO need to have a passion for teaching these girls a great curriculum and support them in this really fun program.

Coaches can be male or female over the age of 18 -so Mom OR Dad can participate with their daughter.

Practices are held at Inno, right after school from 4-5:15pm, 2 days/wk. (M/W or T/TH)

If you have any interest in registration or coaching, please contact Jenna Fisher:jennabekah77@gmail.com 419.350.5707

Total Trek Quest for Homestead Campus – 3rd – 5th Grade Boys

Look for registration information on the spring season of TTQ to come home the first week in January. The spring season will start the last week of February and will end with the Tulip Time 5K on May 6.

Total Trek Quest is a 9 week experiential learning program for boys in 3rd through 5th grades. It combines the physical activity of training for a 5K run with a curriculum that focuses on learning to make goals, building strong social bonds and making healthy choices. The training for the 5k includes strength and stretching exercises along with a program that gradually increases time spent running.

If you are interested in coaching, contact Vicki Kavanaugh at 616-396-2301 ext 149 for more information.

Homestead Campus “Angel Tree” – Note from InnoCares

Do you or another Innocademy/iCademy family you know have a need within your family this holiday season, that we can help bless you with? We love taking care of our own little community, and helping with needs when they arise, which includes Christmas.

This year we will offer an Angel Tree opportunity, open to all Inno Homestead/Allegan Campus, and iCademy families. Needs will be placed on a tree, for others to select from, and help provide.

Please do not worry, as this will all be anonymous.

Should you have some specific needs this year, please send an email request BY WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 7TH, to: inno.cares@innocademy.com

All requests will be viewed by Ms Kerri and the Parent Lead of InnoCares, Marie Getz. Once all requests have been received, you will hear back directly from one of them regarding your need(s) with specific details.

We wish for all families to enjoy their holidays, so please let us know how we can brighten yours.

Merry Christmas from the InnoCares Team

What Is InnoCares, Anyway?

Innocademy and iCademy Global strive to foster a Culture of Caring within our school community. The InnoCares Team (one of several parent volunteer teams serving under the umbrella of InnoRoots) was created to provide extra care and help for students, staff, and families during circumstances of higher needs. Some examples are the birth or adoption of a child, a job or housing transition, a death in the family, illness/injury or surgery. We all face these things at one time or another, and in those times, we all need a community of support around us. The InnoCares Team is the place to communicate those needs (email: inno.cares@innocademy.com) so we can arrange some help such as car pool, meals, or simply cards of encouragement. Some situations we realize can be of a delicate nature and we will keep those confidential while offering discreet support. Please email to let us know how we can care for you and your family!

A Note From Inno Roots

Once again our families have set the tone for a successful year by helping the Homestead Campus run a great first semester.   We appreciate your unfailing attention to detail and your helping hands in the daily lives of our kids.

We are fortunate to have volunteers stepping up to tutor and organize and chaperone and copy and run events and spruce the place up and cover so many other needs!  If you see a parent or grandparent around investing time and talent to our schools please make sure to thank them for making a difference in our IES community .

As second semester approaches and schedules change with the seasons,  if you or a family member would like to become involved in new or additional ways, please contact the InnoRoots team to let us know and find out more.

Thank you for making our schools great!

The Innoroots Team

After School Dismissal – IMPORTANT UPDATE

Just a reminder that school ends each day at 3:30pm. In the interest of student safety, we want to make sure everyone is picked up and accounted for by 3:45pm – – or whenever that final car is loaded in the parking lot. Please take a peek at the information, below to help understand the process staff will be following for students who are remaining:

  • If a child is not picked up by 3:45pm (or the end of the pick up line), they will report to after school enrichment. The first time a student reports to after school enrichment after not being picked up will result in a charge of $10.00 per family if the child(ren) is picked up by 4:15pm.
  • If a child/family stays later than 4:15pm, they will be charged for the entire day which is a drop in fee of $14.00 per child.
  • For each time after the first a child is not picked up by 3:45pm, the charge will be the full amount of a drop in fee which is $14.00 per child.

Thanks so much for your help!

Pop Can Drive THIS WEEK!

On Friday, in Family Time, students had the opportunity to sample some coffee from our RE:FUEL coffee shop. This coffee comes from the country of Honduras where we have partnered with Abundant Life School. Students learned about Honduras and Abundant Life; where they are in the process of building a science lab for the school. We want to help them in their endeavor by doing a one week pop can fundraiser within our Family Groups! Students may bring in actual pop cans or receipts from cans that have been returned, already. They should give these slips to their family leader so that we can keep track of which family had the biggest collection. Pop Can drive begins on Monday, November 14th and ends on Friday, November 18th.

Learning about Honduras and tasting some YUMMY (icky?!) coffee!

Who Is Ms. Sara?

You may have heard your student come home saying, “Ms. Sara read to our class, today!” or “Ms. Sara helped with ____, today!” So, who is Miss Sara? With our organization growing by leaps and bounds, it became necessary for us to hire a part time point person to assist our teacher committee with all of our human resources needs. Viola! Enter, Ms. Sara! Ms. Sara has tons of experience in HR and LOVES to work with kiddos. She has been a rockstar and lifesaver for us, so far this year in getting folks hired, handling teacher certification renewal and state reporting as well as building a plan for future IES hires. We are SO thankful for her wisdom and guidance.
