Christmas Extrava-GANZA Rehearsal – Students Dismissed from Community Reformed

On December 13th all students participating in the Christmas Extrava-GANZA program that evening will be bussed that afternoon to Community Reformed Church for rehearsal. Students will be dismissed at 3:30pm FROM COMMUNITY REFORMED CHURCH. Please see Map, below, for traffic flow. Students attending After School Enrichment that day will be transported back to school by staff and can be picked up from Homestead Campus as normal.

Since there are very few middle school students participating (only choir students), we have made the decision for those middle school students who aren’t participating to stay at Innocademy for the afternoon so we can continue with classes as normal. This allows us to keep moving with instruction and reduce the amount of down time our students may experience while being at the church. 

Knowing some parents may need to pick up students at both locations, we are planning on having middle school students do pick up from 3:15 – 4:00 pm at Innocademy.

If this situation poses an issue for your family, please feel free to contact any of the middle school team members by Tuesday December 11 to workout a possible solution.

Extravaganza Refreshments

This year as a school we have decided to order cookies from Costco. We will also be providing an option of packaged nut free cookies for families with allergies. Please look for a special designation and, if your family does not have allergies, please help by pointing your kiddos in the direction of the Costco cookies =). Ordering cookies will  help keep things simple and keep our students with food allergies safe!

If you are able to contribute funds to help with the purchase of these cookies it would be most helpful! We cannot wait to celebrate all the hard work by students & staff! There will be an envelope at Ms Heidi’s Desk for contributions. Venmo transfers to Tonya Frifeldt are also an option!! Thank you for always being willing to help out!

Spelling Bee

It’s time to start thinking about our Innocademy/iCademy school spelling bee! Classroom bee’s will be held the end of December or early January.  Our school spelling bee will be held early-mid January.  Dates are still being determined so please continue to watch the blog for more information.  Please use the attached list for practice words if you and your kiddo wish to start practicing now.

Career Day

On December 14 from 11:20 – 12:30 we are running an informal career day for our middle school students. This is a test run for our Power Lunches we would like to start in January. We are looking for 7 – 10 volunteers to do two presentations of about 20 minutes each related to the volunteer’s career. We would like the volunteer to present the following items:

  • Who he/she is.
  • The career s/he is in.
  • How s/he made the decision to enter that career field.
  • Schooling necessary for that field. (High School Diploma, College Degree, Apprenticeship, etc).
  • The day to day functions of that particular career. 
  • Things s/he likes about the career, and things s/he would like to change or improve.
  • Q&A session.

18-19 Innocademy Yearbook Info

The ’18 – ’19 Yearbook is starting to come together, but we need your help!

Last year’s books were hardcovers at $20 each. Unfortunately, prices have been raised this year overall. 

We would also like the chance to include more information, pictures, and memories in this year’s book by adding more pages. Please take the survey at the link below so that we can offer the book that most families will be interested in!

Art Note from Ms. Sharon

Art classes have been very busy this past year.  Art Prize was our big event.  If you haven’t seen our creation for the 2018 Art Prize, it is hanging by the Classic Kindergarten room.  All art students in the past year helped create our masterpieces. Our K-4 classes have been working on name designs, portraits and pumpkins and one point perspective. They will be coming home shortly and you can ask your child how it was created and what they learned.  In our study of portraits students learned about proportion, placement of features and different techniques used by artists.  Middle school electives learned about Modigliani and exaggerated features.  They also made portrait masks using clay and designed an illuminated manuscript letter.

We are also finishing up our study of arial perspective.  

Ski Club Passes Now Available!

Just a reminder that Ski Club Passes are now available for all Innocademy/iCademy Global families and friends! Simply fill out the forms, below, and return to Leisa Lobbezoo with check payable to Bittersweet Ski Resort. Please allow for 10-14 school days to receive your passes after turning in forms and payment.

JRL Library Book Check Out – NEW!

Wanted to share with you our new automatic check out system for books in the main Just Right Library for students in classic and Las Huellas 3rd – 8th grades. Huge thanks to Ms. Claudia who has been working really hard to develop a system that helps us keep all of our valuable books available for our students.

We recently started to use an automatic check-out system that allows us to keep track of our books. The system allows students to keep their checked out books for 2 weeks. If they are not able to finish them during that time, no problem! They can easily renew them, if nobody else has a hold on them.

If library books are overdue, we will not charge overdue fines, but we will send out a note to the parents with a deadline a few days later. By that date either the books need to be back at Innocademy or a replacement fee will need to be charged. The replacement fee will be $5, $10, or $15 dollars, depending on the value of the book. Again, this is so that we can keep books available for our students all year long.

School Closings & Delays

Sad to say we are coming upon the season where weather delays/cancellations may be necessary. If a cancellation happens, it includes after school activities and events. If a delay happens, we will begin school at 11am instead of 9am. There will only be Option #1 for hot lunch that day. When Zeeland Public Schools makes the call to delay or cancel school, we always follow suit. We try to pass along that information as soon as we are aware. Here’s how we will pass along that information to you:

  • Rained Out Text to families
  • Email to families
  • Facebook Notification
  • Broadcast on WZZM
  • Broadcast on WOOD TV-8

If you have not yet signed up for the Rained Out Text messaging system, please simply enroll by:

  • Opening your messaging app on your phone
  • Type 84483 in the “to” section of messages
  • In the “message” section, type innocademy
  • Press “send”

You should receive a message back indicating you are now part of the group! Easy!
