Parent Meeting Reminder

Tomorrow evening, February 27th at 6:30pm is our next parent meeting. The meeting will be held at Innotec - Suite 50 - upstairs conference room. Please use the spiral staircase to access the 2nd floor.  If you are traveling from Innocademy to Innotec on Roosevelt, it is the building closest to our school.

If you are in need of childcare for that evening it will be located at the Innotec gym, which is the building directly behind Suite 50. In order to drop students off at the childcare facility, it is necessary to  enter through the 2nd Innotec driveway on Roosevelt (just east of the Ventura building). Follow the drive toward the back to Suite 100.

If your child is eligible to attend the Mackinac Island Trip (you would have received a survey earlier this month - It is Ms. Leisa/Ms. Nancy/Ms. Cyndee/Ms. Kelli’s Social Studies groups), please plan on attending a 1/2 hr informational meeting BEFORE theparent meeting (beginning at 6pm).

If your child is eligible to attend the East Coast Trip (you would have received a survey earlier this month - it is Ms. Mel’s ELA group), please plan on attending a 1/2 hr informational meeting immediately AFTER the parent meeting. Looking forward to seeing you there!

Innocademy Yearbook Message

Hi Families!  The yearbook committee is running in FULL FORCE right now.  Each week, we are hoping to begin a new page in our book (which will go on sale in May and be delivered at the end of June)!  What we are in need of are ANY pictures that you would like to see in the book that shows off all of the AMAZING events that have happened this year so far (including the Holiday Extravaganza, Fall Festival at Community Reformed, Stewardship events like raking and Food Pantry, any field trips that have taken place, or any other picture you feel would show our kiddos enjoying their time learning!!) or will happen in the future.  Please keep this invitation in the forefront of your mind as you continue to take pictures at events!  You are welcome at ANY TIME to pass those along to me via email, flash drive or if you are a Drop Box user (this is a fast and EASY EASY way to share those photos with me quickly!!!).  If you have questions on how to get pictures to me, please feel free to send me an email or give me a call at leslie.rindfliesch@innocademy.com or 405-8869:-)  Thanks so much for your help!  This really makes our yearbook easier to put together and fun to look through:-)  ~Leslie

Mosaic Update from Ms. Lisa

In Mosaic, we recently completed a unit on Kenya.  We learned about Kenya’s geography, climate, culture, and flag.  We also studied the animals of the region, especially the famous wildebeest migration in Kenya and Tanzania.  One day we focused specifically on the Maasai tribe, even trying on authentic Maasai jewelry and attempting the moran’s (warriors) famous “jumping dance.”  We sampled Kenyan chai (black tea with milk and sugar) as well as a local dish called irio (recipe below).  Finally, we finished our unit by learning about the first African female winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, Wangari Maathai, and her work with the Green Belt movement in Kenya.

Kenyan Irio

irio

4 large potatoes

1 1/2 cups frozen corn (or canned or fresh)

1 lb. fresh spinach leaves, chopped

2-3 cups black-eyed peas or green peas (I used black-eyed peas for Mosaic)

salt and pepper to taste

Cook each of the vegetables until tender, and drain.  Mash the potatoes with a spoon, and mix in all the other ingredients, seasoning to taste. This makes enough for 60 kids to have a small spoonful, so probably a main dish for 6-8; recipe should be halved (at least) if you’re serving it as a side dish.
