You won’t want to miss out on the fun THIS THURSDAY, August 17th from 6-8pm. Please bring your family, along with table service, your own beverages and a dish to pass.

Please sign up for what you will be bringing here:

www.SignUpGenius.com/go/60B0C4EAEAD229-dutch1

Please plan for your entree to serve at least 8 people and your dessert or side to feed at least 12.

Cost per family is $10.

Dinner will begin at 6:30pm and all activities will end at 8pm.

Everyone, Please Read – Free/Reduced Lunch Applications.

Each year Innocademy receives additional funding based on our family population that may qualify for Free/Reduced Lunch. This additional funding works out to be a HUGE budget line item for us.

We are in danger of foregoing some funding this year simply because we have fewer families that have filled out the application. EEEK!!

We need your help! Even if you think you won’t qualify, or your kiddos might never even take hot lunch, PLEASE take a moment and fill out the CONFIDENTIAL online form.  Every little bit helps our schools!   Just go to lunchapp.com….search for our school through Holland Christian (they are our hot lunch provider).

You will be notified if you qualify and you can then decide if you would like to participate.

Thank you, in advance, for your help in securing extra funding for our students and programs.

Can I Eat Lunch With My Student at School?

Absolutely! We love visitors! Please simply sign in at the front desk with Ms. Heidi. She will give you a visitor’s badge and you are all set!

Middle School Sports Opportunities This Fall!

We are so excited to be partnering with iCademy to participate in organized sports! This fall we are offering boys soccer, girls volley ball, non-competitive cheer and boys and girls cross country running. If anyone is interested in participating in a sport you will need to have a physical and a few consent forms completed. Mr. Kelly can answer any questions you have! The cost is $60.00 for the season and this covers the cost of officials, space and uniforms. Let him know if you are interested at kelly.lepley@innocademy.com

Solar Eclipse Viewing – August 21st!

We have a unique opportunity to witness something that only comes around once in a great while.  On Monday August 21 we will be able to witness a near total eclipse of the sun.  Students have been learning about it in Innogineering and other classes.  Due to it’s rarity, we want to give our students the best opportunity to see all the eclipse has to offer.  However, as I am sure you are aware, staring at the sun with your eyes can be dangerous and cause damage.  To prepare students for the eclipse, Innocademy has pre-purchased one pair of solar glasses (ISO certified and approved) for solar viewing.  Using the glasses everything appears black, except extremely bright lights.  The sun appears as an orange ball.  With these glasses it will be safe for students to look at the sun during the eclipse.

When purchased in bulk our school was able to buy the glasses for just $2.00.  We are asking for you to please reimburse the school for the cost of the glasses, as students will be able to keep their own pair.  We really want everyone in the school to have a pair so that nobody is left out of this amazing experience.  Some students have informed us that they will be gone that day.  To help us ensure that we have enough glasses and that we don’t buy too many, please tell your students teacher if he/she will not be in school that Monday, August 21 and will not need a pair of eclipse glasses.  Also, more information will be going out if you would like to take part in the solar eclipse viewing with your child, part of the eclipse will still be passing even as we line up for dismissal.

Thank you for your consideration and please let us know if your child will not be in school by Friday so we can make the appropriate purchase.

Navigator Scouts At Homestead Campus!

We have confirmed our application to join Navigator Scouts, and confirmed with Innocademy for using space, so it is official! We will be having our first meeting this week Tuesday, August 15th from 3:30pm to 5:30pm! Any parents who have already provided their email address, we will be sending out more details via email. If you want your child (boy or girl) to participate in Scouts, please contact Rivka at rivka.kawano@gmail.com . Ages 5-12 to start out with. Older kids can be helpers if they would like.

American Heritage Girls Information/Opportunity

There is a local Jenison group called American Heritage Girls, which is much like Girl Scouts but with a Christian emphasis.  It is open to all girls ages 5-18.

They meet the 1st three Mondays of the month (beginning after Labor Day) from 6:15-8:00pm at Holy Redeemer Church on Baldwin street in Jenison.  (The group is not affiliated with any particular denomination, it just happens to be held in a Catholic church.)

If anyone would like to learn more, we are having an informal meeting on Monday, Aug 21 at Hagar Park from 6-8pm.  Would love to see some new faces!  For more info, please contact Amy.fleck1999@gmail.com.

Wheeled Toys At Recess…

In years past, we have encouraged students to bring scooters/skateboards/rollerblades with helmets for recess. Unfortunately, with our current construction, we will be limited in space and will not be able to have wheeled toys at this time. Classroom teachers will communicate if/when we are able to reintroduce these fun toys.

Free/Reduced Lunch

Just a reminder that you need to fill out a free/reduced lunch request each year if you wish to take part in the program. You can do that confidentially, online at the link at www.lunchapp.com. Select HOLLAND CHRISTIAN for your school district and proceed to fill out the application. Tips for applying: Make sure to include every household member living with your family (may be a grandparent, uncle, friend) and be sure to include household income. If you have specific questions, please contact Sue Lambers at slambers@hollandchristian.org.

Hand 2 Hand Coming to Homestead Campus!

Innocademy is again participating with a program called “Hand2Hand”. This program provides supplemental weekend food and snacks for families. Should you decide to participate, your child will receive a bag full of food items, on Thursdays, that may be eaten over the weekend by your family. There is no cost to participate. Keep in mind this program is intended to come alongside families who could really use the help. If you are not in need of this type of assistance right now please refrain from signing up so we can maximize our resources for those families who would benefit from this.

Individual families can decide how long or short a period of time they would like to participate. If you sign up for Hand2Hand, then down the road you no longer need the assistance, simply write a note expressing your desire to discontinue receiving Hand2Hand food bags. You may bring the note right to the front desk or give to the child’s teacher. This opportunity is being provided through the H2H Hope Gathering Area Pantry, Vertical Church, Community Ref Church and Faith Ref Church.

To participate, you can fill out the form here and return to the front desk:  H2H

WEST Parking Lot  – – European Driving?

If you have visited Homestead Campus this last year, you will likely remember seeing signs that said, “Keep Left” and thinking, “Goodness, that doesn’t seem right?”. It is. We had to reconfigure our traffic pattern in the West (McDonald’s side) parking lot to accommodate a larger number of vehicles during Innocademy dismissal each day. If you enter on the west side, for everyone’s safety, please heed the signs at all times of the day and night. Thank you!

PLEASE NOTE: CHANGE FROM SUMMER EDITION #2 BLOG INFORMATION…IF YOUR STUDENT HAS A LAST NAME OF A-J THEY WILL BE DROPPED OFF/PICKED UP ON THE EAST SIDE. K-Z ON THE WEST SIDE.

DROP OFF IN THE AM

  • 8:35am students may begin arriving, drop their bags up by the building and enjoy some time on the playground. PARENTS: As you drop off your student, if there is ANY reason you must get out of your car or delay moving for any reason (unbuckle your student, help get something out of trunk, give extended kisses and hugs, goodbye) please park in a spot and walk your child across the lot. In order to keep everything flowing, the drop off area is designed to be a one minute or less stop. Thank you.
  • 8:50am whistle blows and students will line up in front of their teachers where we will say the Pledge of Allegiance
  • 8:55am students and teachers will enter the building
  • 9:00am students enter their classrooms and attendance is taken (we will contact you shortly, thereafter if your student is not in his/her class and has been reported absent) Please, if your student will be absent or tardy, send an email to attendance@innocademy.com or send a quick text to your child’s homeroom teacher.

After School Pick Up

Arrival/Dismissal Map

As a reminder, our school day ends at 3:30pm and students will be dismissed from class at that time. Innocademy staff will be waiting with students on either side of the building during pick up, along with our AAA Safeties. If your student has not been picked up by 3:40pm, they will be placed in the After School Enrichment program. There is a drop in fee for After School Enrichment. Just a reminder that there is no supervision on the playground after school. For the safety of our students, please remind your students that they should be waiting in the area right by the building for pick-up.

Youngest and younger friends (K-2) will be sitting on the curb for pick up to help expedite getting them into cars

Please, please, please stay in your cars and do the drive-through method whenever possible as this helps staff learn you, your car and kiddos =). It will take us some time, but we WILL learn, I promise!
During the first couple of days of school, one of your kiddos will come home with a colored sheet of paper with your family last name on it. This is for you to put in your windshield for the first few weeks of school; green paper = A-J pickup in the EAST lot and yellow paper = K-Z pickup in the west lot. Helps staff expedite pick up and learn you, your car and kiddos.

NEW Information For This Week

WOW! Thank You!

Because of your generosity, Ms. Hillary’s Donors Choose Instrument Project has just under $700 remaining to meet the goal! Wow!!!

If you’ve been meaning to donate or would like to check it out, please see the information and donation link, below:

Last school year Innocademy students benefitted from the generosity of Hope College with the use of their barred instruments. They made a huge impact on our music program and student learning! Your kiddos sang, played, and created using these tools, and I want to see that happen again this school year.
In order to make that a reality, I’ve written a grant through Donors Choose. The total amount of money needed for this project was $2,734. I’m thrilled to report that we are over halfway to meeting our goal! I am looking for 43 donations at just $25 to finish this project and start off the year with these instruments in the hands of our music-making students.
Use the link below to check out the project!
With a grateful heart,
Ms. Hillary

Lunch Menu For August and Free/Reduced Lunch

Please keep an eye on your email for a lunch menu!

Also, just a reminder that you need to fill out a free/reduced lunch request each year if you wish to take part in the program.

Arrival & Dismissal

Instructional time starts promptly at 9am each day. If your student arrives after 9am please be sure to sign them in at the reception area. Upon arrival at school each morning students should either report outside for recess or head straight to devotions (devotions is Sept-May only). For the safety of our students, please remember that our before school activities (recess and optional devotions) do not begin until 8:35 each morning. Because there is no outside recess coverage by Innocademy staff until that time, it is important that students do not arrive before 8:35. Thanks so much for your cooperation.

Parking Lot System – PLEASE SEE MAP

Use the Homestead entrance/exit if the last name of your family name begins with L-Z and use the 84th St. entrance/exit if the last name of your family begins with A-K. For the safety of your students, please stay in your car in the line. Staff will dismiss students to their cars as the line moves. Please see the attached map and follow the arrows as indicated. Dismissal Map If you would like to get out of your car and pick up your child, you are welcome to park in the lot, exit your car and pick your child up from the sidewalk area. For the safety of our students we will not send them unescorted across the parking lot to your car. Thanks for your understanding.

After School Pick Up

As a reminder, our school day ends at 3:30pm and students will be dismissed from class at that time. Innocademy staff will be waiting with students on either side of the building during pick up.

Ride Sharing Information

We know that many of you work with neighbors, family and friends to transport students to school each day. THANK YOU!!!

We also know that sometimes (okay…OFTEN TIMES!) transportation is a thorn in your side! =).

Hoping to make it a bit easier by employing a website called RideShare!

I set up a private group for members of our Homestead Campus. You can find it here: https://erideshare.com/group.php?homestead . The password is inno/icad.

Once you create a FREE account, you are able to post if you need a ride OR you wish to carpool OR if you are able to simply scoop up a couple of extra kids on your way to/from school! It can be for one time rides or to set up a permanent schedule.

I’ve poked around a bit and played with some options. It’s pretty easy and sounds like it could be a fantastic way for our families to connect with each other around a HUGE and important piece of school – – getting there!

After School Enrichment Sign Up

Our After School Enrichment program (open to all students in Kindercademy – Oldest Friends) will be fun playtime, games, homework time and snack during the month of August.

Please click the sign up, below, for pricing information and to register your student for the month of August.

We are looking for someone who would love to work with our kiddos after school 3:30-5:30 part time during the school week. Days would be Tuesday, Thursday and every other Friday. All programming would be handled with your help, if desired, as well as billing. The main role would just be to engage with the kids, parents and other staff to provide a safe and fun learning atmosphere for the students. All Ages Soccer Opportunity

Each season lasts for six weeks and all games and practices are held at the Port Sheldon Sports Complex in Hudsonville. Registration is open until July 1st for the Fall/Spring league. www.ayso676.org . Email me if you have any questions at jane.lanser@gmail.com

Lost and Found! Please check – Even if you think you aren’t missing anything =)

Please take a moment to check the overflowing pile of lost and found. EVERYTHING will be donated at the end of the year.

Looking For An End of The Year “Thank You”?

As this school year draws to a close, teachers are proactively gearing up for next year.  Our students have already been exposed to creative play, design thinking, and tinkering through a myriad of projects throughout the year.  This up coming year we want to take that to a whole new level with classroom and schoolwide makers space centers, kits, and stations.  Many of the supplies that we would need for this are easily available intentionally because we don’t want the maker space mentality to stop at the front door.  However, getting supplies and equipment for 400 kids can be overwhelming for staff.  So we are asking for your help!

Instead of year end gifts to our teachers (believe me we appreciate coffee as much as anyone else) we are asking that you consider purchasing and or collecting materials for our classroom makers spaces.  Teachers have compiled lists of items they would love to have at school and in their classrooms to spur on creative thinking and problem solving.  Long lists can feel overwhelming though so if instead you would prefer to buy gift cards to places such as Amazon, we may be able to get volume discounts, as well as reduce duplications of needed supplies.

The list of consumable supplies will be on-going and we are developing a place up front where these can be collected throughout the year.

Mileage Club Returns!

Mileage Club is during recess. Students run/ walk around a designated course. Once they complete a lap they will get a punch in their yellow foot card, representing one lap. Once they fill out the whole card (which equals 2 miles/ 20 punch holes) they will be awarded a foot charm and a pair of shoelaces. They will continue to do this (if they want to) each lunch recess, everyday until the last Thursday of the year. The more cards they fill out the more likely it is for them to win a prize. At the end of Mileage Club we will have a prize drawing. Completed cards will be drawn out of a box to see who won each prize. Start date is: 6/6/17. End date is: 6/22/17. Student helpers will punch cards during this 3 week period. After the 3 weeks have elapsed, we will have an assembly on the last Monday and Tuesday to hand out prizes.

8th Grade Graduation – June 22nd

We are excited to celebrate our Innocademy Graduates! BIG thanks to the Brooks’ Family for being willing to host the event. Everyone is welcome to come and share in the ceremony and celebration. It will be held on Thursday, June 22nd at 6:30pm at 1527 S Shore Dr. Holland 49423.

Writing and Grammar – Private Tutoring With Lucy Seay

Does your student need a bit of extra help with writing composition and grammar, either after school or during the summer months?

In private tutoring, I work with students to focus on both structure and style in writing. Beginning with a solid understanding of the parts of speech, we cover basic grammar, types of phrases and clauses, word choice, and varied sentence structure, in both fiction and non-fiction writing. In addition, I work with older students on challenges such as summarizing and analyzing written material; developing narrative, descriptive, informative, or persuasive essays; conducting research and organizing reports and longer term papers; and analyzing and writing about literature.

With a degree in communication, I have been writing professionally for more than 25 years. I have taught writing classes for upper elementary, middle, and high school students, as well as privately tutoring students in various levels of writing, from remedial to advanced.

Help Wanted – After School Enrichment Opportunity!

We have an exciting opportunity for the right person to join our after school team! Please feel free to contact Renee Frye by email at renee.frye@innocademy.com or chat with me in person if you have any interest or questions.

All Ages Soccer Opportunity

My daughter, Trina, an Innocademy/iCademy middle schooler, had graduated out of Rec soccer, but was hoping to still play. We discovered AYSO soccer in Hudsonville which has been a great opportunity, so I thought I’d spread the word. There are teams in fall and/or spring for all ages, preschool through high school. Each season lasts for six weeks and all games and practices are held at the Port Sheldon Sports Complex in Hudsonville. Registration is open until July 1st for the Fall/Spring league. www.ayso676.org . Email me if you have any questions at jane.lanser@gmail.com

For more information about private tutoring for your student, please call (616) 748-4973 or email lucyseay@att.net. I would love to work with you.

The Girls On The Run team had their 5k this past weekend on Saturday.  They did great!!  The group of girls are from 3rd to 5th grade, and represent Inno Classic, Las Huellas, and iCademy.  The girls have worked hard over the past couple of months to train for the 5K celebration, as well as learn to be the best they can be for themselves, friends, family, and community.  They also had to work together on a community impact project.  One of the teams wanted to focus on animals and provide wish list items for a local animal shelter.  The girls also had a bake sale to raise money to give as a donation.  They were able to donate $60.40!!   The girls would also like to give thanks to the Inno family for supporting their cause with donations of dog food, rawhide bones, dog toys, cat toys, cat treats, paper towels, and gently used blankets.

iCademy/Innocademy Family In Need…

As I shared in the email Friday morning, one of our iCademy Global students, Anya Dibkey, sister of Logan at Innocademy, has been struggling with Crohn’s disease for many years. Over the course of the last 3 weeks, however, Anya has endured 6 surgeries.
As of Friday morning…after the 6th surgery… doctors are hopeful that she is on a good path and will not have to have another for the next 3-6 months.
As you can imagine, the stress of an ill child, mounting medical expenses and being 2-1/2 hrs from home has been a heavy burden for Anya‘s family to bear.  As a result, her Aunt has set up a GoFundMe page for those of you who would be interested in supporting this family. Thank you for your generosity!

Garden Donations Still Needed, Please!

While you’re enjoying the weekend, please consider stopping by a local greenhouse or checking out your backyard. We have less than half of the plants we need to make the Homestead garden beds look beautiful this spring.

Thank you to those of you who have already donated. For those who haven’t had a chance yet, it’s not too late! Please take a look at the updated sign up genius link, below, to sign up for a plant (or a few!) to donate to your classroom’s garden bed.

Middle School Families, Only =)

On Wednesday May 24, the Innocademy students will be traveling to Community Reformed Church for the Innocademy Showcase dress rehearsal. We understand some of the middle school students will not be participating in this and would like to offer you the opportunity to pick them up here instead of the church.

The students who will need to attend dress rehearsal are students who are in Las Huellas, Ms. Gina, Ms. Monica, Ms. Heather, Ms. Cyndi, Ms. Kerri or Ms. Sara’s learning groups or are middle school students involved with:

  • Choir
  • Band
  • Costa Rica
  • Stop Motion Animation

If your child is not involved with the groups above and you would like your child to stay here during the afternoon, please follow the link below and fill out the survey. We are requesting this be completed by Tuesday May 23 so we can plan and staff accordingly.

Congratulations Art Students!

Ms. Sharon reports that we are really fortunate to have 6 Innocademy students selected to have their work sent to China as part of the China Art Exchange sponsored by MSU! Greta B., Eshwar S., Selah A., Maylena F., Kate M. and Shea F.

Congratulations on a GREAT Soccer Season!

As you know, this year was the FIRST season for girls’ 7/8th grade soccer at Innocademy & iCademy Global! We were excited to partner with Corpus Christi to form a team!

The ladies just completed a very successful season (4-4).  Trina and Annabelle, Innocademy students, had a great time contributing to the team and making some new friends.

NEW INFO FOR THIS WEEK

YET ANOTHER BARCODING BLITZ DAY!

We have some great momentum going as we try to complete barcoding our books.  We’ve had a small group join us for our previous barcoding days and now most of these parents are continuing to barcode at home.  We’d love to have a few more of you join us on WEDNESDAY, MAY 17 at 9 am.  Claudia will get you started on how it works and then you’re welcome to work on books for an hour or the whole day or even take some books home with you.  An easy and fun way to make a big contribution to our school!  Also, a big thanks to those of you who are already helping us out with this project!!

OLDER INFO…IF YOU HAVEN’T ALREADY SEEN IT =)

Innocademy/Precademy Garden Project

As I mentioned in last week’s email, we are excited to start a garden project for the boxes outside and need your help!
Each homeroom class has a garden theme and ideas for plants to place in the boxes. Please see the attachment, find your child’s homeroom teacher (Jessenia and Anita are working together!) and read all about the theme and types of plants they are looking for. Have fun choosing plants at a local greenhouse with your child – – or feel free to give a monetary donation in lieu of a plant. You may sign up using the link, below, for the type of plant(s) you wish to provide.

If you’d like to take a peek at the list of plants and theme for each homeroom, again, here it is:

We are looking for plants to be delivered to school between May 15th – May 17th.
Thanks, in advance, for helping create this super cool space for our kiddos to learn and grow!

Phonemic Awareness Tutor Training – FREE!!! Are You Able To Help, Please?

We are SO excited to be able to offer another Barton Intervention Tutor Training for anyone interested in helping our students achieve their learning goals!

What’s Barton Intervention? We are working on screening students at Innocademy and iCademy Global for strengths and challenges in the area of Phonemic Awareness…the fundamentals of reading. Simply put, Barton Intervention is a complete program created to help strengthen these foundations.

Thursday, May 18th from 5:30-8:00pm here at Homestead Campus.

Can’t make it, personally, but know someone (college student, favorite babysitter, grandparent, family friend) who would love to spend a couple of hours each week working one on one with one of our students? Send them over! We have LOTS of students on the list just waiting for tutors to be available.

Is YOUR student already receiving tutoring…and you just know that working with them one on one wouldn’t go over so well, but you’d love to help another student? We have parents in that situation and would love to help orchestrate a “swap”; yoututor my kid and I will tutor yours =).

Training is FREE! Please RSVP to Leisa at leisa.lobbezoo@icademyglobal.org if you’d like to join us!

Thank you, in advance, for supporting this important program and our students.

Online Internet Safety

Are your children safe while online? Michigan families, especially minors, are becoming inundated with advertisements from alcohol, tobacco, pornography and gambling marketers through different internet and cell phone inboxes. Texting their advertisements is the newest marketing effort that many of these companies are using. Thankfully, the State of Michigan offers a free program to stop adult advertisements from reaching e-mails, mobile phones (text messaging ads) and instant messenger IDs. The Michigan Child Protection Registry, like the federal Do Not Call List, is a free do-not-contact service for Michigan’s families and can be located at www.ProtectMIChild.com.

Corpus Christi Golf Outing – May 20th

As you may remember, Corpus Christi School is partnering with us this spring to make sports available for our middle school students. If you are a golfer and looking for a fun event to support a great school, this is it! Thank you!
