Reminder – Hand 2 Hand Still Available

Homestead Campus is again participating with a program called “Hand2Hand”. This program provides supplemental weekend food and snacks for families. Should you decide to participate, your child will receive a bag full of food items, on Thursdays, that may be eaten over the weekend by your family. There is no cost to participate. Keep in mind this program is intended to come alongside families who could really use the help. If you are not in need of this type of assistance right now please refrain from signing up so we can maximize our resources for those families who would benefit from this.

Individual families can decide how long or short a period of time they would like to participate. If you sign up for Hand2Hand, then down the road you no longer need the assistance, simply write a note expressing your desire to discontinue receiving Hand2Hand food bags. You may bring the note right to the front desk or give to the child’s teacher. This opportunity is being provided through the H2H Hope Gathering Area Pantry, Vertical Church, Community Ref Church and Faith Ref Church.

To participate, you can fill out the form here and return to the front desk:

Navigator Scouts at Innocademy

Maybe you have heard about our new Navigators scouting troop? Navigators is a parent-led organization that is similar to boy scouts or girl scouts, and is all-inclusive. Designed for kids ages 5-11 (though younger children can come with parents, and older children can be involved in leadership opportunities), we work to earn badges, learn skills, and focus on community involvement and service. If you want to get your family involved in this special opportunity, please attend our parent meeting October 26 at 6:30pm in the Cafe. You can ask questions, get to see our calendar for the year, and learn more about this great organization. Any questions call Josh Hodgkinson 989-550-2107 after 6pm or email Chapter175@NavigatorsUSA.org

Parent’s Night Out –  October 27th

Do you need some time to yourself?
What movie do you want to go see at the movie theater? Where do you want to eat?
What errands do you have to run that would be so much easier if it was only you?
Las huellas’ team is here to help!  Drop your kids (current Inno students who are preschool age and older, please) off with us in our las huellas space (in the space behind Precademy) from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on our scheduled night and enjoy the evening!  All we ask is for a small fee of $10 (cash or check made out to Innocademy) per child.  We will provide popcorn and a movie or even some craft for them to enjoy.
Our team would put the money we collect from these parent night out events into our Professional Development Account that will help us go to Minnesota and learn from Spanish Immersion experts at the University of Minnesota next school year.  This is a very expensive conference for teachers but we feel it is well worth it to be the best we can be for your kids. Thank you in advance for your help in achieving our team goal!
Please use the sign up genius below to sign your kids up and so we plan popcorn needed accordingly. We have set dates for the entire year. Make sure to sign up for the correct date.

Daycare Staff – Help Wanted!

We are looking for someone to join our Daycare Team.  This position would work 8:30 – 4:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays (there may be opportunity to sub on other days on an as-needed basis).  Generally speaking, the staff daycare is ope on days school is in session as well as staff Professional Development days.

The Daycare team provides care to our staff’s children.  The kids range from 12 weeks old to 5 years old.  Providing a nurturing environment for these little ones while mom/dad is working is the key to this role.  Responsibilities include caring for kids, feeding them, bringing them outside for playtime, etc.

Please email Sara in Human Resources if you are interested in more information on this position – her email is sara.vereeke@innocademy.com

Multiplication Mania, Growth Groups, BrainIAC time, MTSS – What is it?

You may have heard your child mention a particular part of their day when they work with a teacher and a small group of students? In Allegan it is called “BrainIAC” time. At Innocademy Zeeland it is called “Multiplication Mania” in middle school and “Growth Groups” for elementary students.

No matter the name it is a Multi-Tiered System of Support or MTSS for short. This is just one more tactic of our “just right learning” philosophy. Essentially, it is a learning journey where we try to meet each student where they are academically; whether they need to be challenged in a particular area or could use additional academic support.

Based on assessment data, we have created small groups for students where they focus on reviewing or reinforcing specific learning targets several times a week. In this current session the learning targets are in math.

As we progress through the year, students will be grouped and regrouped; each student receiving what he/she needs for a particular set of learning targets and expectations.

Hopefully, you will be hearing a lot from your kiddos about their learning groups this year!

Microwaves At Lunch…Food For Thought =)

It is true that we have two microwaves at lunch for students to use. It’s a GREAT option once in a while to heat up a quick lunch. Please keep in mind, though, that we have over 100 students eating lunch at one time. If 60 students bring something to heat up for one minute each, the line for microwave use could easily be 1/2 hour…longer than the lunch time =(. Please be conscious of sending items that take more than 30seconds – 1 minute to heat up. Some families have purchased a small lunch size thermos and heat up items in the morning. Amazing how warm that keeps food until lunchtime. Thanks for your help!

Second Tutor Training Opportunity – October 26th

We are working to be able to screen our students at iCademy Global and Innocademy for their strengths in phonemic awareness. These are the fundamentals of reading. We are finding students who are in need of some support beyond what can be offered each day in the classroom.

We have the resources – Barton Intervention is a complete, research based program proven to strengthen these foundations!

We have the FREE training!

WE NEED YOU!!

SO excited to be able to offer a Barton Intervention Tutor Training for anyone interested in helping our students achieve their learning goals! Absolutely no experience necessary!

October 26th from 6-8:30pm

Can’t make it, personally, but know someone (college student, favorite babysitter, grandparent, family friend) who would love to spend a couple of hours each week working one on one with one of our students? Send them over! We have LOTS of students on the list just waiting for tutors to be available.

Whatever time you can offer during the week would be so appreciated! 1 hour, 2 hours or even more!

Training is FREE!

Please simply RSVP to leisa.lobbezoo@innocademy.com if you wish to attend.

Thank you, in advance, for supporting this important program and our students.

Parent’s Night Out – September 21st

Do you need some time to yourself?
What movie do you want to go see at the movie theater? Where do you want to eat?
What errands do you have to run that would be so much easier if it was only you?
Las huellas’ team is here to help!  Drop your kids off with us in our las huellas space (in the space behind Precademy) from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on our scheduled night and enjoy the evening!

Innocademy Visits Art Prize – September 28th

On Thursday, September 28th all Innocademy students will be traveling to Art Prize in Grand Rapids! We will be leaving Innocademy at approximately 9:10am and returning to school approximately 2:10pm.

The trip is really exciting and something staff and students alike look forward to each year! In order to make groups of students/chaperones for that day, we need your help!

In an effort to make sure that we are not paying for transportation that we don’t need, we would appreciate your family designating your plans for that day and then pledging to adhere to those declared plans as the trip date arrives. With 330+ students and approximately 50 staff and volunteers, you can imagine the difficulty in rearranging groupings and transportation for last minute changes =). We absolutely understand that life happens and you or your child might wake up sick that day, but if we can limit those changes by making early decisions about what your family will be doing, that would be incredibly helpful! THANK YOU!!!!

There are 3 options we would like you to consider:

Option #1 – You are transporting your OWN students to and from Art Prize, walking around during the day and do not need to check in with Innocademy Staff before, during or after the trip. You do not need to meet us at school that morning. If you have arranged to take someone else’s child, that is for you to work out with those parents PRIOR to the trip day, please! Thank you!

Option #2 – You wish to chaperone the trip. This means that you will meet at Innocademy that morning, ride the bus to and from the event, chaperone your own children and, possibly additional children (we try to keep the groups no larger than 5 students per adult). Please keep in mind that siblings under 5 years old are not allowed to ride the bus per ZPS transportation department rules. The cost for each student and parent is $5.

Option #3 – You are unable/do not wish to chaperone, but your child(ren) will be attending school as normal that day, riding the bus to and from the event with Innocademy students/staff. We will assign them a staff or parent chaperone. The cost for each student is $5.

Please plan on completing this sign up no later than Monday, September 18th at 8:00am.

Looking forward to a FANTASTIC adventure in art!

Even if you think you won’t qualify, or your kiddos might never even take hot lunch, PLEASE take a moment and fill out the CONFIDENTIAL online form.  Every little bit helps our schools!   Just go to lunchapp.com….search for our school through Holland Christian (they are our hot lunch provider).

You will be notified if you qualify and you can then decide if you would like to participate.

Thank you, in advance, for your help in securing extra funding for our students and programs.

Can I Eat Lunch With My Student at School?

Solar Eclipse Viewing – August 21st!

We have a unique opportunity to witness something that only comes around once in a great while.  On Monday August 21 we will be able to witness a near total eclipse of the sun.  Students have been learning about it in Innogineering and other classes.  Due to it’s rarity, we want to give our students the best opportunity to see all the eclipse has to offer.  However, as I am sure you are aware, staring at the sun with your eyes can be dangerous and cause damage.  To prepare students for the eclipse, Innocademy has pre-purchased one pair of solar glasses (ISO certified and approved) for solar viewing.  Using the glasses everything appears black, except extremely bright lights.  The sun appears as an orange ball.  With these glasses it will be safe for students to look at the sun during the eclipse.

When purchased in bulk our school was able to buy the glasses for just $2.00.  We are asking for you to please reimburse the school for the cost of the glasses, as students will be able to keep their own pair.  We really want everyone in the school to have a pair so that nobody is left out of this amazing experience.  Some students have informed us that they will be gone that day.  To help us ensure that we have enough glasses and that we don’t buy too many, please tell your students teacher if he/she will not be in school that Monday, August 21 and will not need a pair of eclipse glasses.  Also, more information will be going out if you would like to take part in the solar eclipse viewing with your child, part of the eclipse will still be passing even as we line up for dismissal.

Thank you for your consideration and please let us know if your child will not be in school by Friday so we can make the appropriate purchase.

Navigator Scouts At Homestead Campus!

We have confirmed our application to join Navigator Scouts, and confirmed with Innocademy for using space, so it is official! If you want your child (boy or girl) to participate in Scouts, please contact Rivka at rivka.kawano@gmail.com . Ages 5-12 to start out with. Older kids can be helpers if they would like.

American Heritage Girls Information/Opportunity

There is a local Jenison group called American Heritage Girls, which is much like Girl Scouts but with a Christian emphasis.  It is open to all girls ages 5-18.

They meet the 1st three Mondays of the month (beginning after Labor Day) from 6:15-8:00pm at Holy Redeemer Church on Baldwin street in Jenison.  (The group is not affiliated with any particular denomination, it just happens to be held in a Catholic church.)

If anyone would like to learn more, we are having an informal meeting on Monday, Aug 21 at Hagar Park from 6-8pm.  Would love to see some new faces!  For more info, please contact Amy.fleck1999@gmail.com.

Wheeled Toys At Recess…

In years past, we have encouraged students to bring scooters/skateboards/rollerblades with helmets for recess. Unfortunately, with our current construction, we will be limited in space and will not be able to have wheeled toys at this time. Classroom teachers will communicate if/when we are able to reintroduce these fun toys.

Free/Reduced Lunch

Just a reminder that you need to fill out a free/reduced lunch request each year if you wish to take part in the program. You can do that confidentially, online at the link at www.lunchapp.com. Select HOLLAND CHRISTIAN for your school district and proceed to fill out the application. Tips for applying: Make sure to include every household member living with your family (may be a grandparent, uncle, friend) and be sure to include household income. If you have specific questions, please contact Sue Lambers at slambers@hollandchristian.org.

Hand 2 Hand Coming to Homestead Campus!

Innocademy is again participating with a program called “Hand2Hand”.

To participate, you can fill out the form here and return to the front desk:  H2H

WEST Parking Lot  – – European Driving?

If you have visited Homestead Campus this last year, you will likely remember seeing signs that said, “Keep Left” and thinking, “Goodness, that doesn’t seem right?”. It is. We had to reconfigure our traffic pattern in the West (McDonald’s side) parking lot to accommodate a larger number of vehicles during Innocademy dismissal each day. If you enter on the west side, for everyone’s safety, please heed the signs at all times of the day and night. Thank you!

PLEASE NOTE: CHANGE FROM SUMMER EDITION #2 BLOG INFORMATION…IF YOUR STUDENT HAS A LAST NAME OF A-J THEY WILL BE DROPPED OFF/PICKED UP ON THE EAST SIDE. K-Z ON THE WEST SIDE.

  • 8:35am students may begin arriving, drop their bags up by the building and enjoy some time on the playground. PARENTS: As you drop off your student, if there is ANY reason you must get out of your car or delay moving for any reason (unbuckle your student, help get something out of trunk, give extended kisses and hugs, goodbye) please park in a spot and walk your child across the lot. In order to keep everything flowing, the drop off area is designed to be a one minute or less stop. Thank you.
  • 8:50am whistle blows and students will line up in front of their teachers where we will say the Pledge of Allegiance
  • 8:55am students and teachers will enter the building

After School Pick Up

Arrival/Dismissal Map

As a reminder, our school day ends at 3:30pm and students will be dismissed from class at that time. Innocademy staff will be waiting with students on either side of the building during pick up, along with our AAA Safeties. If your student has not been picked up by 3:40pm, they will be placed in the After School Enrichment program. There is a drop in fee for After School Enrichment. Just a reminder that there is no supervision on the playground after school. For the safety of our students, please remind your students that they should be waiting in the area right by the building for pick-up.

Youngest and younger friends (K-2) will be sitting on the curb for pick up to help expedite getting them into cars

Please, please, please stay in your cars and do the drive-through method whenever possible as this helps staff learn you, your car and kiddos =). It will take us some time, but we WILL learn, I promise!
During the first couple of days of school, one of your kiddos will come home with a colored sheet of paper with your family last name on it. This is for you to put in your windshield for the first few weeks of school; green paper = A-J pickup in the EAST lot and yellow paper = K-Z pickup in the west lot. Helps staff expedite pick up and learn you, your car and kiddos.

NEW Information For This Week

WOW! Thank You!

Because of your generosity, Ms. Hillary’s Donors Choose Instrument Project has just under $700 remaining to meet the goal! Wow!!!

If you’ve been meaning to donate or would like to check it out, please see the information and donation link, below:

Last school year Innocademy students benefitted from the generosity of Hope College with the use of their barred instruments. They made a huge impact on our music program and student learning! Your kiddos sang, played, and created using these tools, and I want to see that happen again this school year.
In order to make that a reality, I’ve written a grant through Donors Choose. The total amount of money needed for this project was $2,734. I’m thrilled to report that we are over halfway to meeting our goal! I am looking for 43 donations at just $25 to finish this project and start off the year with these instruments in the hands of our music-making students.
Use the link below to check out the project!
With a grateful heart,
Ms. Hillary

If you have specific questions, please contact Sue Lambers at slambers@hollandchristian.org.

Arrival & Dismissal

Instructional time starts promptly at 9am each day. If your student arrives after 9am please be sure to sign them in at the reception area. Upon arrival at school each morning students should either report outside for recess or head straight to devotions (devotions is Sept-May only). For the safety of our students, please remember that our before school activities (recess and optional devotions) do not begin until 8:35 each morning. Because there is no outside recess coverage by Innocademy staff until that time, it is important that students do not arrive before 8:35. Thanks so much for your cooperation.

Parking Lot System – PLEASE SEE MAP

Use the Homestead entrance/exit if the last name of your family name begins with L-Z and use the 84th St. entrance/exit if the last name of your family begins with A-K. For the safety of your students, please stay in your car in the line. Staff will dismiss students to their cars as the line moves. Please see the attached map and follow the arrows as indicated. Dismissal Map If you would like to get out of your car and pick up your child, you are welcome to park in the lot, exit your car and pick your child up from the sidewalk area. For the safety of our students we will not send them unescorted across the parking lot to your car. Thanks for your understanding.

After School Pick Up

As a reminder, our school day ends at 3:30pm and students will be dismissed from class at that time. Innocademy staff will be waiting with students on either side of the building during pick up.

Ride Sharing Information

We know that many of you work with neighbors, family and friends to transport students to school each day. THANK YOU!!!

We also know that sometimes (okay…OFTEN TIMES!) transportation is a thorn in your side! =).

Hoping to make it a bit easier by employing a website called RideShare!

I set up a private group for members of our Homestead Campus. You can find it here: https://erideshare.com/group.php?homestead . The password is inno/icad.

Once you create a FREE account, you are able to post if you need a ride OR you wish to carpool OR if you are able to simply scoop up a couple of extra kids on your way to/from school! It can be for one time rides or to set up a permanent schedule.

I’ve poked around a bit and played with some options. It’s pretty easy and sounds like it could be a fantastic way for our families to connect with each other around a HUGE and important piece of school – – getting there!

After School Enrichment Sign Up

Our After School Enrichment program (open to all students in Kindercademy – Oldest Friends) will be fun playtime, games, homework time and snack during the month of August.

Please click the sign up, below, for pricing information and to register your student for the month of August.

Open House Fun!

Please plan to join us on July 31st from 6:30-7:30pm to meet your child’s teacher(s) and take a walk through the school! This is a GREAT time to bring in school supplies as well! We are looking forward to seeing everyone in just a couple of weeks!

School Supply Reminder…

Under each teacher, above you will find a link to the school supplies for that particular learning area. Please, please, please contact us if obtaining these supplies is a hardship for your family. We are here to help!  Also, a reminder that most of these supplies will go in the community closet for teachers and students to share during the year. If there is a particular item your child wishes to keep as his/her own, please simply label it with his/her name and instruct them not to add it to the community pile =).

The Custodial Crew is a vital part of our school – they are the people that work behind the scenes to make our school welcoming and inviting to students, staff and visitors. Providing an excellent learning environment starts with a clean and safe facility. Our crew members take care of both cleaning and maintenance tasks, using commercial cleaning equipment. The Daycare team provides care to the children of our staff members. The kids range in age from 12weeks to 5 years old. Providing a nuturing environment for these little ones while mom/dad are working is the key to this role. Responsibilities include caring for, feeding and offering indoor and outdoor playtime, etc.
